CEO of Tumblr Steps Down

Tumblr has fallen out of the spotlight since it was purchased by Yahoo for $1.1 billion in 2013. This platform is still used by many marketers to push out content, build links, and get in front of the fairly decent number of people who still use it. The CEO of the microblogging site, David Karp, has announced that he is stepping down and that Jeff D’Onofrio will be taking the helm. D’Onofrio is the current COO.

A spokesperson for Verizon’s Oath (the division that now owns Tumblr) said, “David Karp will depart Oath by the end of the year. David founded Tumblr ten years ago as a space for the world’s creators, and we thank him for his commitment and passion driving the growth of the platform to almost 380 million blogs and over 155 billion posts. Going forward, Jeff D’Onofrio, President and COO of Tumblr, will continue to lead the team.”

Karp wrote to employees via his personal Tumblr page and said, “I beg you to understand that my decision comes after months of reflection on my personal ambitions, and at no cost to my hopefulness for Tumblr’s future or the impact I know it can have.”

It is unlikely that there will be much significant change in how Tumblr is run, at least in the near future.
