New Study Shows Social Video Shares Doubled in Last Year

It is no surprise that video marketing is quickly becoming one of the most effective tools marketers have.  Videos have long been the ideal way to share information.  Television commercials, for example, are simply videos that marketers have been creating for generations.  Over the past several years, it has become possible to create a video and share it online, without having to worry about how many customers would have the bandwidth necessary to view and share the video.

Today, virtually everyone has some sort of broadband internet connection in their home, and a growing percentage of people have it on their phones or other mobile devices as well.  This has allowed marketers to really focus on creating high quality videos, which they typically share through social media platforms.

According to a new study from Unruly, the number of shares a video gets within the first three days of being posted has doubled over the past year.  There are a number of factors that likely went into this rapid growth over the past year.  First, Facebook has introduced the ‘auto-play’ feature in their news feed, so people will see the videos while scrolling through.  This naturally encourages more people to click and view the video, and once people see it, they are more likely to like or share it with friends.

In addition, other social media sites have begun offering improved video viewing and sharing experiences as well.  This move allows people to more easily share videos, which obviously leads to more people doing it.

Perhaps most importantly, however, is the fact that it seems that the quality of videos is continuing to go up.  Marketers are putting more effort into giving their viewers the high quality videos they want, which naturally leads to more people sharing them.

Whatever the reason, the study shows that video marketing is becoming more effective over time, and all marketers should really be using this powerful format.
