Big Changes Coming to Brand Pages on Facebook

Facebook has announced that they will be making significant adjustments to the layout of brand pages, beginning this week.  The changes will have brand pages looking more like personal profile pages, which have just one column of content.  This is just one more step by Facebook to distance itself from the unpopular Timeline-style that began being implemented in 2011.

Personal pages have had the single column for some time now, and they have been received fairly positively.  The business pages will now have a similar look.  The single content column will allow the most recent posts to be seen more easily, and it is also easier to understand the order posts were made in.  Along the left side there will be information about the business, such as hours of operation, addresses, website URLs, image or video galleries and other similar content.

In addition, Facebook announced an update to the admin tools for business pages.  They will be putting links to activity, insights and settings at the top of the page instead of using the ‘hide/show’ toggle that is currently there.

The data about how well a page is performing will be included in the admin summary, along with messages and notifications.

One last addition, which should please many, is the ability to compare results with other brand Pages.  In the insights area, you can add a ‘pages to watch’ tool so you can track and compare metrics of competitors or other brands.

Over the coming weeks this will be rolled out, at which point we’ll be able to get a hands on feel for how this will work.  At this early point, however, these seem to be nice improvements for brands using Facebook.
