Publish Bright and Early to Kill the Competition

The old adage, “the early bird gets the worm” appears to apply to today’s digital marketers.  A recent study released from My Life found that 27% of consumers check their social networks as soon as they wake up.  This is a great opportunity for brands to get their name in front of customers early in the day so they can be included in their plans for the day.

Having content about a brand published and seen first thing in the morning is a great way to not only keep the brand on the minds of customers, but also beat out the competition.  Most businesses make the mistake of putting out content later in the day.  This can be effective since the study also shows that 51% of social network users check their accounts several times during the day.  They are, however, missing the early morning rush which is critical.

This is especially true for brands which offer digital services which can be viewed immediately.  Of course, a company that requires customers to spend extended periods of time on their site might not want to market in the morning because people will have to stop to get ready for work.  As with most marketing strategies, it is important to look closely at this information and see if it will be effective for your particular business.

One nice thing about digital marketing is that marketers don’t have to wake up early in order to post their content.  Most content management systems have the option to schedule when the content will be published.  This can include linking it to Facebook, Twitter or any other social network as well.  This is a great option for marketers who want to produce the content the evening before, and then release it to the morning crowd the next day.

Having a good understanding of your customer base is important for this due to the time zone differences.  For local marketers, or even regional marketers, however, this is not an issue at all.

The study also found that more than half of people who use social networks suffer from what they called “Fear of Missing Out” (FOMO).  This means they frequently check their accounts because they are afraid they will miss an important bit of information from friends, family or even the business pages they follow.  Posting content regularly can help ensure these frequent checkers are constantly exposed to the brand which will make them more likely to make a purchase.

Do you post content early in the morning?  If so, what time do you typically have it published?
