New Voice Features Coming to BrightLine’s Ad Platform

BrightLine is adding a new feature to some of their ad options that will have people talking…Literally. The new ad option on their enhanced OTT ad platform will show video ads that will prompt viewers to ask their home assistant to add their product to their shopping cart.

Their technology will be able to detect what type of personal assistant you have, and tailor their prompts based on that. For example, if it detects the presence of an Amazon Alexa device, the ad may ask you to tell Alexa to add a product to your shopping cart. If you have a Google Home assistant, the ad would change to tell you to have that device take care of this for you.

The ads will also work on other types of devices. For example, the ad may prompt you to ask your Amazon fire TV Cube to add a new television show to your playlist. This will help remind you that you are interested in starting a new television series.

Rob Aksman, BrightLine’s Chief Strategy Officer said, “Immediate benefits are commerce and attribution for certain categories, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg as voice assistants on streaming devices become more sophisticated.” He went on, “This is only the beginning as we develop custom skills, and deeper connectivity and awareness with IoT devices on the same network as the user’s TV.”

This is an innovative new ad option that has a lot of potential. If it catches on and is successful, it is easy to see how it will quickly spread to other platforms. This type of thing will not only benefit advertisers, but will also help make digital personal assistants more useful, and more popular for consumers.
