Groupon has recently acquired the company that owns the popular digital platforms VoucherCloud and GiftCloud. This deal, which is reportedly worth $65 million, will help bring Groupon into the popular voucher and gifting space, especially in Europe. At this point it looks like both VoucherCloud and GiftCloud will continue to operate normally, while incorporating many of the local expertise that Groupon can offer.
VoucherCloud operates in 11 countries around the world, and currently boasts more than 5 million subscribers as well as working relationships with 12,000+ retailers and brands. Their mobile app has also been downloaded more than 10 million times.
CEO of Groupon, Rich Williams, said, “We’re pleased to add two great, profitable brands and very talented teams to the Groupon family. In VoucherCloud, we’re acquiring one of the most innovative brands in the online discount codes space, which we believe will accelerate our own efforts – particularly in international – and broaden our marketplace for consumers.”
Entering into these growth markets is a great option for Groupon, and the two acquired systems should have excellent complementarity with Groupon’s existing business.
