Pew Research on Social Media Usage Released

Pew Research has published their latest report that summarizes social media research trends and stats. In the report, they breakdown the different popular social media sites based on how much they are growing, how many people have accounts there, and much more.

Not surprisingly, Facebook is at the top of the list in terms of popularity. 74% of Facebook users visit the site every day, and 51% visit multiple times per day. These numbers are pretty much the same as they have been for the past two years.

Instagram saw the most growth compared to previous reports. This site is now used by 35% of respondents to their survey, compared to just 28% who were using it in 2016.

Anotehr important area that was looked at is how popular different social media sites are for those who are 18 to 24 years old. Facebook is still most popular at 80% adoption, but Snapchat is just behind at 78%. Instagram has 71% of the younger users. Well behind them is Twitter at just 45%.

The report also provides information about YouTube, which isn’t a social media site in the traditional sense, but is often lumped in with them for things like this. When including YouTube, it is actually more popular than Facebook in many areas. Specifically, 94% of those who are 18-24 years old use the video platform.

When you move up to those who are 25-29 years old, Facebook stays at about 80% of users, but Snapchat drops way down to just 54%, which is tied with Instagram. 80% of this age group use YouTube, and just 30% use Twitter.
