REPORT: 62% of Local Businesses Buying Facebook Ads

It will come as a surprise to nobody that Facebook is one of the most popular forms of digital marketing for local businesses. A new report from Borrell Associates, however, is putting some specific numbers to just how popular Facebook ads really are.

The report shows that about 80% of all local businesses have a Facebook page, which is quite impressive. It also shows that 62% of all businesses are buying ads on the social network.

According to their estimates, this works out to approximately 2.5 million US businesses that are buying ads on Facebook. The average spend for these businesses is $1500 per year. It is easy to see how Facebook is able to rake in the impressive profits year after year.

The information was gathered from a survey that reached out to US businesses. One of the questions asked which social media platforms businesses had accounts on, and here is the breakdown:

  • Facebook – 96%
  • Twitter – 51%
  • LinkedIn – 41%
  • Google+ – 36%
  • YouTube – 36%
  • Instagram – 34%
  • Pinterest – 20%

About 44% of the respondents reported that they found social media advertising to be the best channel for driving new customer acquisition. This is quite impressive, and somewhat unexpected to many.

The report contains a lot of information about how businesses are using social media for marketing, and what other marketing options they are using. You can see the full report HERE.
