Facebook has just announced that they have surpassed four million total brands that are actively advertising through their ad network. This marks impressive growth for the company, which less than 7 months ago announced that they had 3 million advertisers. Adding a million new customers to their business in this short amount of time is extremely impressive. On top of that, Instagram (owned by Facebook) announced that they now have 500,000 brands buying ads each month, which is up from 200,000 in February.
If you’re looking for some comparison, Twitter, which is Facebook’s biggest competition in social media, only has 130,000 advertisers as of their last report, which was for the last quarter of 2015. Google doesn’t release this type of information.
Of all the advertisers who use Facebook, over 20% of them are creating video ads for the social network. Video ads are a proven way to bring in customers, but they are much more difficult to create than traditional text or even image based ads.
Most of the new advertisers coming to Facebook are in the Southeast Asian region, though they are seeing growth in just about every market.
