40% of Google Search on Smartphone Only

Google has recently released some interesting information that shows just how popular smartphones are when it comes to browsing (and especially searching) the web.  The report found that 39% of people doing search on Google are using a smartphone only that day.  This is quite a change from even just a few years ago when the PC was the dominant device.

They found that each day about 80% of people are using a smartphone, 16% are using a tablet, and 67% are using a traditional computer.  While on these devices, users spend about 170 minutes per day on smartphones, 120 minutes on PCs and about 75 minutes on their tablets.

Google also looked at where people are using their smart phones and found that it is most common in the home, then work, then stores, and finally at restaurants and bars.

This data was collected from a behavioral measurement of 11,964 opt-in Google users. The data was collected between January first and March 31st of this year.  This data really helps to show just how reliant people are becoming on their mobile devices.  It also, of course, shows marketers just how important it is to target users on their phones rather than just targeting PCs or any generic device.
