More Proof of Mobile Marketing Dominance

The mobile platform has widely been considered the fastest growing platform in the world. Sales of iPhones and Androids are at an all time high, the tablet market is a competitive as ever with major products from Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, and others competing for some share of the market.

One of the main questions people often ask is regarding the viability of mobile devices as a market platform. We know just about everyone has a smartphone or tablet, but do people actually shop on there? How can companies monetize mobile users? That’s a struggle companies like Twitter and Facebook have been dealing with recently, leading many to believe that there’s no money in the mobile market.

A company called AppLoving had raised the possibility of mobile markets dominating the sales force on a traditional shopping day like Black Friday. They predicted that about thirty percent of all shoppers will purchase their products using their mobile devices, not in their computer or in person. Due to the struggles that multi-billion dollar companies like Facebook have with making mobile users spend money, you can see why that number was met with a great deal of skepticism.

Even through all of the criticism from tech guru’s, AppLoving’s prediction was not only right, it was actually under. A company called Iovation did a study the weeks before and on Black Friday (and Cyber Monday) and come up with some very surprising numbers. Those new numbers show that 38% of transactions on Black Friday were on mobile platforms. In addition, they found that 30% of purchases on Cyber Monday were on mobile devices as well. In the two days between, the number was at a startling 40%.

They also did a breakdown of what operating system users were using. More than expected, devices running iOS made up 72% of all purchases, while Android came in at 25%. Other OS’s such as Blackberry’s and Windows were the other 3%.

Iovation has a mix of retail clients throughout the world, and all of those retailers offer top-class mobile websites that make it easy for consumers to purchase items. Black Friday validates the idea that mobile marketing today is more essential than ever — people do all of their research on their phones and tablets, and with the correct mix of effective marketing and a professional, mobile-friendly design, it is the perfect strategy for success in the mobile market.
