How to Write High Quality Blog Comments

Getting backlinks is one of the most important tasks for any SEO expert or Internet marketer today.  High quality backlinks will help your site rank better in Google and the other search engines, and also build up the overall reputation on the Internet.  In addition, the best backlinks can help to drive direct, targeted traffic back to your page.  Backlinks from blogs in related niches are among the best types available, but unfortunately, many people don’t take the time to do them correctly.

Writing blog comments properly will not only get your comments approved more often, but it will also help you to build a great reputation in your niche, which will help to drive traffic back to your site.  The following tips and tricks will help you to write excellent comments that will encourage people to click through to your site, without getting flagged as spam.

Link Destination

When filling out the comment fields on most blogs, you will have the option to fill out your name, email address and website URL.  In almost all cases, the URL is going to be the most important one, because the backlink is the main reason most people are commenting anyway.  When adding in a link, make sure it is to a good destination that is going to interest the readers.  If you’re posting on an Internet Marketing blog, for example, you don’t want to link to a travel related URL.  Instead, consider linking to your Google+ or Facebook profile when you’re commenting on blogs that are outside your main niche.

Choosing a Picture

Most blogs allow you to use a picture of yourself or an avatar when commenting.  It is best to use a real picture of yourself, and to use the same picture on all the blogs you comment on.  This will help to build your reputation as well as show the blog owner that you are a real person.  You can use a service like Gravatar or just set up a profile on the sites that you frequently comment on.  However you choose to do it, make sure your picture is clear and easy to identify.

Engage Other Commenters

Don’t always focus only on commenting about the post itself.  You can reply to other commenters as well, which will help to create a conversation on the page.  Blog owners will love this, and it will also encourage people to read your comments and hopefully click your link.

Comment with Value

It is extremely easy to see when people are just comment spamming.  Even when they are doing it manually, it’s not hard to tell which people have read the actual post and which ones haven’t.  Always read through the post before making a comment.  Not only will this help ensure your comment is creating value, but you will also learn a lot from the commenting process.

Comment Early.  Comment Often.

It is best to comment as soon as possible after the post is made.  This is because blog posts get the vast majority of their readers in the first few days after it is posted.  If you don’t comment right away, your comment (and therefore your link) will be seen by far fewer people.  If someone responds to your comment, make sure to come back and reply again to keep people engaging with you.
