Yahoo! Selling off 100+ Premium Domains

If you’re looking for a new domain name to start your next venture, and you have a pile of cash in your pockets, you may want to stop by Yahoo over the next week to see what kind of deals you can get.  They are holding an auction which goes from November 14th – 21st, and they will be selling over 100 domains.  According to Yahoo! they ‘stumbled across’ these domains, which they have been sitting on for quite some time.

On their official tumblr post they said, “As we discussed what to do with them, it became obvious that it was time to set them free…back into the wild of the Internet.  Surely, creative people, businesses and entrepreneurs could come up with something great to do with them.  They could even spark some brand new ideas or companies.”

Of course, these domains won’t be coming cheap.  They are premium domains, which means they will be going for thousands of dollars each.  Some of the top domains are likely to sell for over a million dollars.  With domains, however, you often get what you pay for.  Here are some of the domains Yahoo! has listed as going up for sale:

  • AV.com – Selling Audio/Visual equipment maybe?  Anti-Virus program perhaps? The sky’s the limit with this two letter domain.  Some expect this one to go for over $1 Million.
  • Crackers.com – This one might be good for a cracker company, someone who wants to rate (and sell) crackers or any number of other things.
  • Sandwich.com – Jump on this one for listing the best sandwiches in the world, selling gourmet sandwiches, or anything else you can think of.
  • Jockeys.com – Great for horse riders, jockey shorts or maybe even sports nuts.
  • Sled.com – A nice name for an affiliate site selling winter sleds or maybe snow mobiles.

Obviously, the options are endless with these types of high quality domains.  The lowest expected prices will be $1000-5000, and many of them will go for significantly more.  If you’ve got the money, however, these highly brandable domains might be just the thing to launch your business.

Yahoo! has named this event, “Domainapalooza.”  While the total money they will likely make from this is just a drop in the bucket to them, it will be something interesting to keep an eye on, even if you can’t afford these premium domains.  Some of the most popular sites of the future will undoubtedly be sold over the next week.
