Reddit Adding Native Promoted Posts to Mobile Apps

Reddit has announced that they are (finally) adding native promoted posts in their mobile apps. These posts have long been available on their desktop version of the popular site, but since most people access the pages via a mobile app, it was missing out on a lot of opportunity.

The announcement came via an email to their existing advertisers letting them know of this update. The email also mentioned that 80% of users who have the Reddit mobile app don’t ever access it on a desktop. In addition, those who use the app also stay on their site for 30% longer than those who don’t.

In-App promoted posts will look and function just like standard posts, except they can appear in just about any subreddit. Of course, they will also have the comment next to them letting people know that it is a paid post.

People can, however, up vote, down vote, and comment on these posts just like a normal post on Reddit. This is an important point because marketers will want to be careful of what their ads are saying, and where they are being listed. The last thing you want is for a promoted post to be largely down voted and have lots negative comments.
