Twitter is adding in new advertising options that will essentially treat the Twitter Moment’s feature into something similar to the Stories option with Snapchat, which has been successful for that company. Moments have been available to publishers for more than two years now, but up until now, there has been no way to sponsor them, which has been very limiting to brands.
With the release of Sponsored Moments, brands can promote their brand. Viewers will be able to go through the magazine like content, which will have advertisements embedded within.
Twitter’s blog post on this change said, “We’ve been experimenting with select partners, and we are now rolling out this custom feature to In-Stream Sponsorship partners globally.”
The first company to take advantage of this system was Bank of America.
This is just the latest in a series of moves by Twitter to expand their advertising opportunities. The company has been struggling to generate revenue, which has negatively impacted their stock prices over the past year. Adding in new tools like this could help the social media company to turn itself around.
