UK Consumers Worried About Security

The 2017 Unisys Security Index has been released, which looks at a number of different security concerns including Internet security, war, terrorism, financial issues, and more. In the report, it found that the overall level of concern for citizens in the UK is rising quite significantly. Security concerns can have a serious and direct impact on markets in many ways.

Those who are worried about the threat of war or terrorism, for example, are going to have different buying habits than those who don’t worry about this type of thing. In addition, many people want to start saving money when they are worried, rather than just spending it on luxuries. These can all have a big impact on how marketers will want to conduct business.

For digital marketers, concerns about Internet security can have a particularly direct and significant impact. The report found that people with Internet security concerns rose 50% from the previous report, which is quite a jump. The only area of greater increase was with national security, which went up by 66%.

The concerns related to the Internet in the report included viruses, hacking, online transactions, and more. These are all things that could cause many people to scale back their online purchasing, and possibly even be less willing to interact with ecommerce sites at all.
