New Estimate Predicts M-Commerce to Hit $6 TRILLION Globally by 2021

App Annie is a mobile app specialists firm, and they have released their latest predictions for the future of mobile commerce. To put it simply, if they are right on their estimates, the next several years are going to be providing a lot of potential for many people around the world. The biggest prediction is that by 2021, the global m-commerce market will generate $6 Trillion in total transactions. This is a 160% growth rate over the course of the next four years since we’re currently seeing about $2.3 trillion in m-commerce.

Much of the growth, they predict, is going to come from further market penetration with smartphones and tablets. The ‘first world’ countries are already seeing near saturation levels of these smart devices that people take with them everywhere, but thanks to more budget friendly options, and the massive used smartphone market, this will spread to most other areas as well in the next four years.

Bertrand Schmitt, the founder of App Annie, said, “By 2021, you will really have almost everyone on the planet, ages five to 75, using either a smartphone or a tablet.”

Another thing that will generate growth is the expansion of in-app advertising. At this point, this type of ads are primarily found in mobile games, but this will expend going forward. Just about any type of app can generate revenue, and more ads within apps means a higher rate of purchases being made on mobile devices.

Even if App Annie is way off on their predictions, it seems clear that the m-commerce market is going to be very strong for the next several years.
