FTC Settles with Trampoline Scammers

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced May 31 that it has settled with Son “Sonny” Le and Bao “Bobby” Le, two brothers who allegedly deceived consumers in the marketing and sale of trampolines.

According to the FTC, the brothers set up several fictitious review websites that would endorse their trampoline products. These included “Trampoline Safety of America,” the “Bureau of Trampoline Review,” and “Top Trampoline Review.”

These websites would say to consumers that they were independent. All the websites, actually owned by the Les, would endorse the Les’ products – Infinity and Olympus Pro brand trampolines.

Under the consent order, the Les cannot make these alleged misrepresentations in the future and must clearly and conspicuously disclose any connection between them and endorsers of their products.

The FTC voted 2-0 to issue the administrative complaint and accept the consent agreement, which is currently subject to a 30-day public comment period that will end June 30. After that date, the FTC will make a final decision on the proposed consent order. A description on the order will be published soon in the Federal Register.
