British Are Brutally Hacked to the Tune of $147 Billion a Year

A new report that was produced by Gareth Bacon, GLA Conservative London Assembly, reports that businesses in the UK are losing at least 147 Billion per year in digital theft and other similar losses.

They found that about 99% of small businesses will have experienced some type of online theft or fraud, many of them not even being aware of it.

Gareth Bacon commented on the report saying, “Data is the true currency of modern society and hackers are making a mint because companies are leaving the metaphorical door unlocked.”

He went on to say, “Acting as a pilot programme for the rest of the UK, a Mayor of London Data Security Standard would help keep companies informed on what simple precautions to take to lock off any weak points.  It would also provide a clear sign to consumers that a company is taking their security seriously.”

While most digital marketers are well aware of just how massive a problem online theft and other types of fraud really is, that can’t be said of the average business owner or employee.  This is a huge problem not only in the UK, but around the world.

Most people who just want to run their businesses or do their jobs don’t realize how much fraud and theft takes place online where it often can’t be seen at all.

These types of studies do help to shine a light on the problem, which is very important.  You can see the full report HERE.
