Facebook has been making a lot of changes in recent months to put a priority on posts from friends and family in the News Feed. This has helped to get users to see more of what they want, or so Facebook reported.
The most recent change made to the News Feed algorithm, however, is giving a boost to ‘informational’ posts. Facebook reported that the changes are due to their online survey program to see what people want.
Specifically they said, “We ask people through this Feed Quality Program to rate their experience. For stories that people rate highly, we then ask them why they enjoyed seeing those particular stories.
Generally, we’ve found people find stories informative if they are related to their interests, if they engage people in broader discussions and if they contain news about the world around them.”
This should come as good news for marketers who use organic Facebook posts to grow their audience. Just how much it will help boost the number of posts marketers are able to get seen. Of course, marketers do need to be careful to ensure their posts are coming across as click bait, which Facebook strongly discourages and is punishing with poor rankings in the News Feed.
Facebook did specifically say that most users wouldn’t notice too much of a change, so this isn’t a huge adjustment to the algorithm. Every little bit, however, can be helpful.
