Blab Unexpectedly Shuts Down

The video chat program, Blab, which enjoyed incredible growth from its launch early in 2015 until quite recently when it had nearly four million users, is shutting down.  The co-Founder of the platform, Shaan Puri, sent out an announcement letting users know that the app would immediately be shut down, with virtually no warning.

The company had 3.9 million users and the users had an average ‘time-on-site’ of about 65 minutes per day, which is quite impressive. According to the announcement, it is too difficult to hold people’s direct attention for live streaming video.  Puri said, “It killed Meerkat, and Periscope & [Facebook] Live are feeling the pain right now.  Really, only Twitch has gotten it right with live streaming video games.”

The program was used by quite a few people to bring up to four individuals together for a live video chat.  It was very popular for marketers who used it along with social media to live stream out a conference type call.

Many people are upset that the company is shutting everything down so quickly, and with little warning.  While there may have been some signs, such as technical issues that weren’t getting fixed, and some lists of active videos failing to get updated.

For most users, however, the news came as a shock and they will now have to go out and find an alternative live streaming solution.
