Global Mobile Ad Blocking Doubles In A Year

A new report was released concerning the state of mobile ad blocking globally.  With all the changes over the past year, it will be no surprise that blocking rates have gone up quite significantly. According to the report, usage has nearly doubled in a little under a year. Today approximately 419 million mobile devices are running some type of ad blocking program, the most popular of which are browser based options.

These numbers come out to about 22% of all users around the world using ad blocking.  Of course, this is going to have quite an impact on marketers everywhere. The report says that there are, “45 different ad blocking browsers available on iOS and Android.”

Alibaba is the maker of the most popular version, which is called “UC Browser.” This browser is the second most popular browser overall.  Chrome by Google is the most used, with Opera coming in third place.

The rapid growth continues to accelerate, and new information indicates that it is likely to continue as long as users feel like the ads on their devices are disruptive and unwanted.  Fortunately, ad networks and marketers are already working hard at cleaning up their game.
