Rakuten Predicts Affiliate Marketing Growth to $7 Billion a Year.

New research by the fine folk at Forrester Consulting, and paid for by the great guys at Rakuten shows that performance and affiliate based marketing will grow in leaps and bounds in the next five years. The report claims that over 80% of all advertisers and 84% of all publishers are running some type of affiliate program. They survey also claims that 90% of all advertisers said that affiliate programs were important, and that up to 20% of all revenue was generated by affiliate programs.

The most important part of the study seems to be that more and more advertisers are accepting that affiliate or performance marketing isn’t just about driving people to one sale, but can be part of an overall brand strategy that leads to more engagement.

According Adam Weiss, the General Manager of the Rakuten Affiliate Network: “Affiliate marketing is a high-value, low-risk strategy proven to drive sales and awareness for brands and revenue for publishers and when done right, it cultivates mutually beneficial and authentic relationships between brands and publishers, and those publishers and their audience.”

The survey claims that within 5 years the entire affiliate ecosystem will be generating almost $8 billion 7 Billion based on both direct and indirect sales.
