Federal Regulators to Vote on Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality has been a hot topic for years, but all the talking is finally going to turn into some action later this week.  Federal regulators are planning on voting on a government plan to start treating the Internet providers more like they treat normal phone services.

There has been debate on both sides, with many large companies weighing in due to the fact that it could have massive impact on the way the web works in the future.  Twitter has long been a supporter of Net Neutrality, but they have only really released statements through other groups, or signed on to other statements.

In a recent blog post, however, Twitter has eliminated any question about where they stand.  They came out strongly supporting the move.

The post, written by Will Carty (Twitter’s public policy manager) they said, “Empowering ‘lesser’ or historically less powerful voices to express themselves and be heard globally is at the core of Twitter’s DNA.”

The social giant is happy that congress is finally looking at addressing the issue of net neutrality.  While they don’t support any one specific plan, the fact is most of the proposals that are being seriously considered are similar enough to make little real difference to Twitter.

As of the latest polls, it seems likely that Twitter will be happy with the results of Thursday’s votes, which are likely to pass.
