Mobile Ad Startup Namo Media Acquired by Twitter Inc

Twitter has recently announced that it has acquired the mobile advertising company Namo Media.  The company specializes in native advertising for mobile devices, which is a major part of Twitter’s monetization strategy.  The specifics of the deal have not yet been released, other than the fact that the technologies acquired in the acquisition will become a part of the MoPub ad serving platform used by Twitter.  That platform was purchased last year for over $300 Million.

This is a fairly minor purchase in terms of overall impact, but it does show that Twitter is continuing their push forward, despite the issues they have been having with stock price and other non-tech related things.  While the technologies they got with this deal are undoubtedly useful, the immediate benefit may have more to do with showing investors and the tech world in general that they are still one of the largest and most influential companies in IT today.

Of course, Twitter will focus on pushing the business benefits they will receive in this move.  Kevin Weil, Twitter’s vice president of Product wrote in a post, “We share a vision for how native advertising can improve the state of mobile app monetization for marketers, app publishers, and users.”

There is no word yet as to when the native ad technologies acquired will be rolled into the Twitter platform.
