AdColony Acquired by Opera

Opera has announced that they have acquired a leading mobile ad platform, AdColony.  Once the acquisition is completed Opera will lead the world in providing video ads to publishers and advertisers, reaching well over 700 million consumers globally.

You have undoubtedly seen AdColony advertisements, which are common in apps running on iOS and android devices.  Their instant-play ads stream HD quality video ads with virtually no delay, which helps ensure viewers will actually watch the ad, rather than clicking it away before it even gets a chance to load.

Opera Software CEO, Lars Boilesen, said of the deal, “Opera is growing rapidly and we are constantly looking for opportunities to bring best-of-breed services to the market.  AdColony is a natural fit for Opera and our mobile advertising subsidiary, Opera Mediaworks.  This acquisition will augment our services with a robust specialization around mobile video the fastest growing segment within the mobile advertising industry.”

Will Kassoy, CEO of AdColony, also expressed the companies excitement to join the Opera team, saying, “Opera Mediaworks shares our vision to enhance the mobile ecosystem and deliver the highest quality mobile video experience in the world.  Our keen focus on the consumer experience in mobile apps combined with the massive growth of mobile video consumption worldwide, has catapulted our growth and made us a go-to partner for app developers and advertisers.  We are excited to now be part of Opera Mediaworks’ renowned global organization and look forward to unlocking tremendous synergies together.”

There is no word yet on how this acquisition will effect current marketers who use the powerful AdColony video platform.  The deal will be completed sometime in the third quarter of this year, however, which is coming up quite quickly.
