I am completely bewildered by the response and actions of former RadiumOne CEO, Gurbaksh Chahal. Chahal, who made his first millions while just a teenager, was involved in a major domestic violence episode last summer and because of his guilty plea in the case was fired from his position at the company he founded.
The claims against him are bad enough; that of kicking and hitting his girlfriend of the time 117 times, his actions in response to the public outing has made things even worse.
Mr. Chahal had the opportunity to show publically that he not only regretted his actions, but that he was taking positive steps to improve himself. Instead of apologizing to the general public, the victim of this brutal attack, he showed that he was nothing more than egotistical asshat who had zero remorse about what he did.
One of his first responses on his blog was to actually blame his girlfriend for the violence inflicted on her, claiming that she was having “unprotected sex for money with other people.”
His only apology was basically a half-assed attempt to his customers, investors and family – almost as if he was only upset that they found out that he had a really hot girlfriend that dated men for money. We were pretty sure from the start she wasn’t dating him for his award winning personality. It’s almost as if he was making an excuse for his behavior, because he believed that everyone would understand his actions in light that his girlfriend cheated on him.
No Mr. Asshat, unless your girlfriend informed you of her cheating while holding your balls to fire with a pair of rusty tongs, you have no right to lay a hand on her, let alone 117 times.
Even after being virtually tarred and feathered by the press, and pretty much every single female on the Internet, Gurbaksh still didn’t apologize. Instead of doing the right thing, even though it might be completely fake and disingenuous, of apologizing for his horrid behavior, he again went on the offensive angrily attacking the board for their actions.
At no point has Mr. Chahal shown any regret for his actions, which were videotaped by his own personal security cameras. As a first time offender, jail time wasn’t probably even in the cards from the start, and he could have apologized over a year ago, taken a plea and tried to make restitution for his actions.
For some reason he continues to defend himself and refuse to acknowledge what he did was wrong.
It’s time for him to apologize to the public, to the legal system for wasting their time and most importantly, the victim.
