Facebook Kicks off HasOffers for Privacy Violations

HasOffers was part of a select group of companies that had been partnered with Facebook to bring new mobile customers onto Facebook and provide analytics for those customers. Unfortunately for them, this huge partnership has ended with them being kicked out of the program for violating Facebook’s privacy rules on retaining data and consumer consent.

These violations had come up during a privacy audit that was put in place to make sure that all their partners were following these rules. They were kicked out along with Kontagent, another mobile analytics company.

Facebook had posted the following information about this incident: “After working with a third-party auditor to review the practices of all our mobile measurement partners, we discovered that some weren’t adhering to the terms they agreed to. As a result, we’ve removed a couple of our partners from the program. We take our contracts seriously, and will continue to act swiftly anytime we find out they are being violated.”

Back in September of 2013, HasOffers had admitted to similar violations and agreed to change their practices. Then Peter Hamilton, the CEO, informed clients via email that the allegations were true:

“It recently has come to our attention that our MobileAppTracking platform was in violation of Facebook’s policies. Specifically, our MobileAppTracking platform inappropriately allowed advertisers to obtain device-level attribution and performance data. This was a mistake on our part.”

This is not good news for HasOffers which recently raised $9.4 Million, partially based on their growing mobile strategy.
